Eduardo Portal - Musical Co-Director

Eduardo Portal is Assistant Conductor of the National Youth Orchestra of Spain and Junior Fellow in Conducting at the the Royal Northern College of Music for two seasons, Eduardo Portal is principally developing his artistic career in Europe, conducting orchestras including the Berliner Symphoniker, Orchestre Philharmonique de Luxembourg, Staatksapelle Weimar, Sinfonietta92 and . Recently he has taken part in the Interaktion Workshop in Germany with musicians of the Berlin Philharmonic and Staatskapelle Dresden among others, and also with the baritone Thomas Quasthoff.

He has taken part in masterclasses with Bernard Haitink, Peter Eötvös, Hartmut Haenchen, Sir Colin Davis, Sir Mark Elder, George Pehlivanian, Sylvain Cambreling, Diego Masson, Johannes Schlaefli and Zsolt Nagy and has recently worked on projects with Sir Simon Rattle, Lorin Maazel, Bernard Haitink, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Sir Colin Davis, Paavo Järvi and James Conlon.

For his Conducting studies at the the Royal Northern College of Music and at the University of the Arts Berlin with Lutz Köhler and his Violin studies at the Royal Academy of Music of London, he has been awarded the most prestigious scholarships, including those from the Humboldt Foundation , the la Caixa foundation , the DAAD, the Spanish Ministry of Culture , the AIE Foundation, the Royal Academy of Music , the the Royal Northern College of Music , Caja de Burgos, Fundación Caja Madrid and Junta de Castilla y León .

Prior to beginning his conducting career, as a violinist he was a member of the prestigious orchestras, the European Union Youth Orchestra , Young Janacek Orchestra, National Youth Orchestra of Spain, and he worked with professional orchestras including London Sinfonietta and the Orquesta Sinfónica de Castilla y León .

In the summer of 2007 he conducted a production of Rossini’s The Barber of Seville at the Dartington Summer Festival and future engagements include a concert with the singer Jane Manning incorporating repertoire of the Second Viennese School.
